Amber's as Media Portfolio
PRELIMINARY TASK
Our preliminary task was to create an approximatley 30 second peice of film featuring the media skills of match on action, shot reverse shot and the 180 degree rule. This peice had to feature 2 actors, one walking into a room and sitting down, then exchanging 2 lines of dialogue.
180 DEGREE RULE

The 180 degree rule forms an imaginary line through a scene, and means the cameras must only film from one side of the line. This makes it seem more like the viewer is watching the scene in person and doesnt confuse them with lots of drastically different angles of the scene.
SHOT REVERSE SHOT

Shot Reverse Shot is a technique used when 2 characters are having a conversation or looking at each other. Usually using an over the shoulder POV shot it involves the viewer in the conversation or situation and uses the angles of the 180 degree rule to give continuity to the scene.
MATCH ON ACTION
Match on action is a technique used to show different angles of the same action, either with or without cutting out unnessicarry parts of said action. It can be used to make the shots more interesting and quicker.
storyboard
We decided a dark and mysterious theme rather than the amusing one that most others seemed to favour, going with a basic theme of some kind of underhanded deal taking place. After working out a quick little storyline we created our storyboard, giving quick sketches of each shot and a basic outline of our set, camerawork, lighting, blocking, editing and costume.

treatment

We decided on using R4 (our media room) to film in as it would be easy to film in and fits with the needs of our set we decided in our storyboard. we chose so shoot some shots in the corridoor as it helped us show the match on action when our character opens the door.

EVALUATION
My group of 4 people created an approximatley 30 second video displaying continuity editing techniques. We showed match on action, the 180 degree rule and shot reverse shot. I think we displayed all of these well, showing match on action when the actor opens the door and walks through, 180 degree rule after the actor sits down with the actress and shot reverse shot when the two exchange lines of dialogue.
The setting was restricted by the places we could acess around the 6th form site and I feel like that detracted from the atmosphere of the video. We originally wanted a video that had a dramatic theme and a lot of tension, although we were unable to create this due to the setting restriction. The soundtrack also could have been better as we struggled to find good quality sound clips that fit with what we were looking for in the scene.
Overall I think the brief was met well although I was not very happy with the project as a whole.
