Costume Planning

We discussed three main aspects of costume that would need to be included in our horror opening, these were the clothing of our Antagonist, Protagonist and Victim.

 Protagonist

When discussing Alistair's costume we researched the kind of costume detectives would wear and referenced the clothing choices in True Detective as it gave a more authentic portrayal of detectives and their clothing. We then created some concept art, trying to make it as simple as possible so as to be easy to put together and not distract from the opening, while still suiting the character and purpose. We settled on a simple dress shirt, tie, blazer, belt black shoes and badge. We discussed the coloring of the costume and decided on black, red and white being our main colors, symbolizing the fight between good and evil going on in Alistair's mind and the violence and death that happen during it. We also decided to contrast these with duller backgrounds to make them stand out more

 Antagonist

We discussed the main costume for our antagonist centering around the mask, first thinking of satanic, red masks with horns but then simplifying our plans to a white Michael Myers style mask. This serves the purpose of concealing Alistair's identity while giving an eerie emotionless feel to the character. Although we discussed purchasing and adapting a mask with goggles and extra cuts to show the face more we ended up keeping the mask we bought as it was to give a less personal and more emotionless touch to it.

Victim

We decided that the victim should be female, to suit the codes and conventions commonly used in horror films of the 'damsel in distress' and that she should wear a dress of light or white color to connote fragility and innocence.
