Analysing Setting
There are many possible settings for a horror film from forests to abandoned houses to small villages but the main settings usually fall into these categories.

Everyday Locations
These include houses/ homes, hospitals, schools, offica buildings or any everyday or normal location. This is because it allows the audience to identify with the characters as they are used to the settings shown. It also makes the audience feel more fear as they are used to feeling safe in everyday life and this feeling is brought into question.

Spooky locations
These "spooky locations" are admittedly sometimes just darker and scarier versions of the everyday locations but do include places like forests, graveyards, dungeons, catacombs or caves. These are places that most of the audience would not usually find themslves in and gives a feeling of discomfort due to the unknown surroundings. This also allows for extra dramatisation of the setting as the audience is less familiar with what it should look like, allowing the settings to be adapted to look scarier.
